Economic Research Analyst

RIPL is a not-for-profit research institute with faculty affiliates from top research universities across the country. Our mission is to use data and science to impact policy and improve people’s lives. Our unique approach turns facts into results by combining high-powered research, policy expertise, and technical know-how to give governments the tools they need to better serve their communities with effective public policy. RIPL science has supported policy and process improvements in health care, education, social insurance, civic participation, workforce development, and criminal justice.  

We are growing and adding new technical positions to increase impact with several state and local government partners.  As an Economic Research Analyst, you will work with leading economics faculty and Principal Investigators, as well as with computer scientists and data scientists, as part of an interdisciplinary team using administrative data, economic models, causal models, and predictive models to develop new, innovative, science for effective public policy approaches which solve complex social problems across a range of domains.

This position is an opportunity to gain research experience before applying to PhD programs in Economics, Public Policy or quantitative social science fields, or Computer Science.  Prior research analysts have been placed in top PhD programs in all of these fields, as well as in research positions in top technology companies. You will work closely with senior economists and data scientists on innovative research projects, and develop skills in big-data research as you learn and contribute to the research process from start to finish.


  • A bachelor’s degree and excellent grades from a top university in economics, applied math, statistics, or computer science, including some training econometrics and statistics.
  • Strong analytic, quantitative, organizational, and communication skills, and the ability to work well independently and collaboratively in a team.
  • Prior experience working with large data sets and excellent programming skills in Stata, Python, and/or R. Proficiency with SQL is a plus.
