| 2010 USPF Region1 and Mass State Championship Results |
The 2010 USPF Region1 and Massachusetts State Powerlifting Championships was a great success this year. This was my second annual meet for both events. There were a lot of new lifters this year and it was great to see the intensity. I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who helped put on this meet. Our Judges Ted Isabella, David Low and Dana Taylor. My spotters and loaders, Robbie Connell, Paul Criscione and Fred Perry. Thanks to Fred for lending us his video camera. When I get the DVD I hope to put some pictures up on the site showing off our lifters great lifts. Of course the head table without them there is no meet so special thanks to Danny Dias and Joni Dias and Colby Connell the clock master and Lisa Sindoni. I would also like to thank Jeff Hill of Hilco Athletics and Graphics of West Warwick, for the Trophies and T-Shirts. I hope to do more with Jeff in the future.
Starting with the Juniors, Jonathan Crowe a new lifter to the Mass meet was very impressive setting a state record in the bench press. Lee Keaffer, always awesome to watch, 18 years old dedicated to his school work and powerlifting his passion. It showed with the Squat lifting 3 times his body weight. Lee also won best lifter. Greg Hodlin was a new lifter this year and never competed and was equally intense and was excited with the results of his first meet, we hope to see him again soon. Pamela Paul a great lifter has experience, came to the meet and set Massachusetts State records in every category. Shaun Robison has competed in several big meets over the past few years, came and dominated the 220 class. It's incredible to watch him lift. Sean Letourneau had never competed in a powerlifting meet before, he was training at Ocean State Gym and asked me if he could go in, I said absolutely. He did great for his first time I expect to see him at the next meet. George Sousa a veteran lifter came and lifted over 500 pounds in the squat and deadlift which is about 2 1/2 times his bodyweight. Dan Raguin, came to my meet for the first time and was also impressive and he said he had a great experience. We hope to see him again also.
In the Bench Press Mark Lovell came into the meet injured and I have to give him credit he toughed it out, set a Region 1 Bench Record. You could see he was in obvious pain but you have to admire his spirit for staying with it. Edward Guilette from New Hampshire came to this meet and opened with an American Record Single Lift Bench in the 132 Class. WOW what can I say what a way to start. What Ed doesnt know is he set some other records!! I will have to send them to him Im sure he will be surprised. Peter Vuono came in the Masters 55-59 Weight Class and did the Deadlift pulling 440 pounds very impressive at age 57.
Thanks to everyone who competed and came and supported the USPF hope to see you next year.
